Efforts to fight blight in the 7th Ward are gaining momentum! Recently, the city agency responsible for addressing blight announced that they have received $30 million to clean up blighted lots and properties. The city also released a new list of structures that have been labeled a ‘public nuisance’ and will be demolished. This list include many structures in the 7th Ward. Finally, the city has promised to re-start code enforcement hearings that were stopped because of budget cuts.
If you want to learn more about how you can fight blight in the neighborhood, come to the next meetings of the Blighted Property Campaign, a organized by 7th Ward residents with technical and staff support by Neighborhood Housing Services. Check the calendar for the date of the next meeting.
